The sports brand PUMA has made its successful football boots, the ULTRA 1.3 and FUTURE 1.2, more sustainable by incorporating recycled materials, thanks to a collaboration with First Mile — an initiative focused on creating a positive social impact by strengthening micro-economies in Honduras, Haiti, and Taiwan. Through this partnership, PUMA has launched the First Mile Pack, which features two football boots crafted from yarns made from plastic bottles collected by the First Mile community, helping to prevent them from ending up in landFIlls or oceans.

First Mile is proud to have partnered with PUMA to clean up the environment and improve the livelihoods of our waste collectors in Taiwan,’ said Jeff Wang, First Mile Taiwan China Impact Manager. ‘We are thrilled to have turned recycled material into high-performance football boots that will be used professionally. Our collectors take pride in their work, knowing the value and purpose of the waste materials they’ve collected.

PUMA has been collaborating with First Mile since 2019, but this is the first time the brand has used recycled yarns from the initiative to manufacture its football boots. The sports brand utilized yarns made from post-consumer plastic collected by First Mile in Taiwan. The plastic is sorted, cleaned, shredded, and transformed into yarn, which is then woven into a flexible fabric. This process has enabled the creation of faster, lighter football boots.
